      Description

There is a transformation happening in how we create, store and use energy as the world and Aotearoa moves away from the use of fossil fuels to renewables and batteries. There are many good reasons to change, including climate change, pollution, health, security and cost. The future is positive, over 80% of the required solutions are available today and are now cheaper over the lifetime of the product than fossil fuel equivalents. In Aotearoa we are one of the first countries to reach a tipping point where people can save money by electrifying their home and vehicles if there is access to appropriate financing. We need to ensure that everyone can benefit from the coming changes. This two-week course will cover energy, including solar, wind, batteries and geothermal. We will discuss how this is transforming electricity, transport and heating. We will also look at how Rewiring Aotearoa is researching and campaigning to electrify everything one machine at a time in Aotearoa and how everyone can participate in the journey. Anne Scott is a retired librarian with a keen interest in data, energy and climate change. Anne has a B.Sc. in Zoology and Psychology and has taught university classes in Information Science.
