In response to unfolding events we invite you to join Michael Couch for this one off stand alone session:
In 1948 New Zealand signed the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), and by the 1970s, most countries started decades of reducing industrial and agricultural Tariffs. In early April 2025, President Trump upended global consensus with significant NEW Tariffs on every country to 'rebuild the US economy'. In this 2-hour course we consider some of the history and philosophy of Tariffs within modern economics - are they good or bad, and why? Why has NZ been so committed to elimination and the USA so resistant? Are they a tax, a tax-substitute, or something else? Who is exposed and who is protected? Why might you or your retirement funds care?
