            Description

Romulus and Remus, Caesar and Marc Antony, Augustus and Nero.  Few ancient societies have shaped modern discussion like Roman imperialism, republican ideologies, and imperial autocracy. This course covers the history of Rome from its humble beginnings to the collapse of the western Empire in the 5th century. We will weave through Kingship to Republican to Empire via the conquest of Italy then expansion. We'll consider the development of major social, economic, political and religious trends at Rome and across the provinces.
