Celebrate Sea Week with a deep dive into looking at some tiny organisms who play a huge part in the health of our oceans. Phytoplankton are the microscopic algae that could be called the "grass of the ocean". They are at the base of the food webs which support most other marine life. They are hugely diverse and often beautiful in their microscopic appearance. They have several vital roles in ocean ecology. As the climate changes, their abundance, distribution and activities will also change.
