Description

Professor Higgins is a member of the Waitangi Tribunal, a board member of Te Mātāwai, Ngā Pae o Te Māramatanga (Māori Centre of Research Excellence),and is the Deputy-Chair of the Māori Knowledge and Development PBRF portfolio. She is Māori Language Commissioner and says the battle for Te Reo Māori has been fought in communities across Aotearoa.

We are very aware that having your language valued, respected and used is positive for anyone and therefore encourages respect for yourself and those you connect with. It supports positive and more peaceful and productive lives for all of us in this country and a better understanding of who we all are. Lincoln Efford was an advocate for Peace and Social Justice and we feel that Professor Higgins work reflects this and the issues we are working on and hoping to improve discussion on.
