What is the place or role of women in society? Like most disciplines, questions like this in Philosophy have been dominated by men and male thought. Debate around questions like ‘does what's in your pants affect what's in your head?’ started many centuries ago. In this course we will focus on the contributions of around a dozen women throughout history whose contributions have helped shape philosophical discussion either alongside, because of, or despite their male contemporaries. Michael Couch has been teaching community education courses for over a decade. With an academic background in Philosophy, Classical Studies, Education and History, he recently completed his PhD in the History of Philosophy of Education in New Zealand. He enjoys learning new topics, and incorporates passion and wry humour into all the courses he teaches.
