Description

Samurai, Ninja, Godzilla, Tsunami, Sushi, Nuclear bombs, Shrines, and Anime. For many people Japan is understood through a series of clichés rather than an appreciation of thousands of years of nearly unique complex development. This course will explore Japan's history - from religion and geography, to war and peace, to the truths behind those stereotypes and the nature of being an island nation on the edge of a region dominated by its East Asian cousins.
