Queen of Katwe is a 2016 film based on a true story. It depicts the life of Phiona Mutesi, a girl living in Katwe, a slum of Kampala, the capital of Uganda. Life in the slums is a constant struggle for 10-year-old Phiona and her family. She and her younger brother help their mother sell maize in the market. She also helps care for her baby brother. Her world changes the day she meets Robert Katende who coaches soccer and teaches children to play chess at a local center. Curious, Phiona visits, learns the game, and becomes a top player in the group under Katende's guidance. An incredible movie about struggle and triumph.
