FREE FRIDAYS: WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT….

Starts 19th May, 12.15-1pm

Description

This term we present topics on issues we feel need urgent discussion and discourse! The topics are so important we don’t want cost to be a barrier to anyone attending, (donations welcomed). We hope that these slightly shorter sessions could fit in your lunch break so feel free to bring yours along.

19th May – Secret Asset Sales – Murray Horton

The Christchurch City Council has the biggest portfolio of publicly owned assets of any NZ city. Selling them was never mentioned by anyone in the 2022 local body elections. Yet, mere months after that, the City Council voted to consider a proposal for partial asset sales. What's more, a report recommending that had been quietly and secretly commissioned months earlier (the report talks of "recycling" assets - meaning, into private ownership). Keep Our Assets Canterbury (KOA), which successfully fought asset sales first time around, will do so again with this latest proposal. KOA Convenor, Murray Horton, will speak.

26th May - E-Waste – Alan Liefting

Alan will give a wide-ranging talk on the effect of electrically powered technology on the environment and the work that is currently being done to mitigate the problems it has created. Alan Liefting is the Managing Director of Ecotech Services which he set up to address the impact of e-waste on the environment.
